I love that you were able to improvise and get a workable crust. I probably would have tried to keep adding flour and ended up with something completely leaden, so I have to admire your husband for calling the dough out on being terrible and refusing to work with it.
I've had many a cooking experience like this (often self-inflicted). Glad it turned out good in the end- and it was fun to watch!
